CHARLOTTE– Uniting people and raising research revenue to conquer childhood cancer is the goal of the 2nd annual Charlotte Area MileStones Walk to Conquer Childhood Cancer to be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Freedom Park. Sponsored by CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation, the walk’s proceeds will benefit lifesaving childhood cancer research conducted by the Children’s Oncology Group, the premier pediatric cancer research collaborative. COG treats more than 90 percent of children with cancer in North America.

“We invite everyone in the greater Charlotte area to come out on November 7 and join our Honorary Chair Sue Myrick and Walk Emcee, Molly Grantham of WBTV 3,” said Charlotte MileStones Walk Event Chair Sharon Sullivan, “We want as many people as possible to be part of the 2nd Annual walk to conquer childhood cancer in Charlotte.”

The MileStones Walk for Childhood Cancer brings together participants and supporters in Charlotte to conquer childhood cancer, the #1 cause of death from disease in children in the United States.  Every school day, another 46 children, about two classrooms of students, are diagnosed with cancer in the United States.

“The revenue raised in Charlotte funds research that will end this disease,” said Stacy Pagos Haller, Executive Director of the Bethesda, MD-based CureSearch.  “Fifty years ago, the cure rate for childhood cancer was less than 10 percent, now, it is approaching 80 percent.  But our goal is to reach 100 percent and we won’t stop until we achieve that goal. We want to guarantee every child with cancer the gift of life.”

Registration opens at the Freedom Park at 9:00 am.  Opening ceremonies and the walk begin promptly at 10:00 am.
